Salteña | Packaging Design

Packaging/Print Design

The Problem

Salteñas are a popular Bolivian food, but there is limited packaging specifically designed for carrying and enjoying them conveniently. The goal of this project was to create packaging that provides an easy, practical way to transport a salteña while keeping it secure and presentable.

The packaging needed to address the challenges of carrying a filled pastry without compromising its shape, cleanliness, or overall eating experience.

Research

Target Audience: Bolivian people and anyone who enjoys Bolivian cuisine.

Competitors: Existing salteñas are often sold in simple bags, wrappers, or containers that are not specifically designed for carrying them.

Inspiration: Bolivian culture, the traditional shape of the salteña, and the need for a more convenient and practical way to carry and enjoy it.

Identity

The visual identity combines Bolivian culture with a playful and friendly style. The logo and typography were designed to feel bold, approachable, and connected to food. Olivita Regular was chosen for its soft, organic appearance, helping create a warm and appetizing feeling.

The color palette uses green, yellow, and red, inspired by the Bolivian flag. The graphic system includes the salteña character, custom patterns, and cultural elements, creating a consistent and recognizable look across the packaging.

Packaging

The packaging was developed around a custom dieline designed to make the salteñaeasy to carry and protect during transport. I explored the structure, folds, and closure system to create a functional package while keeping the design visually engaging.

The final design incorporates the Bolivian-inspired color palette, patterns, and salteña character, bringing the visual identity onto the physical package.
